Every month we sit down with one of the team here at Anthill HQ, to let you all get to know about them and us that little bit better…
Today it’s the turn of Software Developer, Callum!
Q. What is your role?
My role is Software Developer and my typical daily tasks consist of developing new features and/or improving current solutions for our products.
In the morning, the developers will occasionally get together and discuss the work we’ve been doing and the plans going forward so that we are all up to date.
After that, we then crack on and code away for the rest of the day, picking up any available tasks from the task board.
Q. What was your first job?
My first job was during my placement at University, doing software development for a large company in Leeds.
After a few years working there alongside my studies I moved to Anthill where I felt I could develop my skills even further.
Q. What is your proudest moment at Anthill?
I would say one of my proudest moments was getting a promotion from a junior to a mid-level developer after just a few months.
It was great to see a company recognise the efforts of their staff and reward them for it; even after a short while of working for them.
Q. What are your goals for the year ahead?
Seeing developers who have been in the industry for many years, it’s great to see the amount of knowledge they have in their field. This is a huge motivation to keep learning and developing my own software skills.
Also, the work in the pipeline for Anthill is a big motivation. There are always exciting new tasks to be working on which can drive the business forward.
My goals for the year ahead are to improve on my current work, write clearer and more concise code, learn new skills along the way, and play a key role in the progress of the team.
Q. What other organisations do you most admire and why?
I think being from a computing background I have a soft spot for the major companies out there like Google, Amazon, eBay, YouTube, Facebook.
The sheer size of these companies and the impact they have had on people’s lives has to be appreciated. This is especially true when you think back to their humble beginnings.
Q. What are you adding to the Anthill playlist?
That’s a tough one. My top artist on Spotify last year was Drake, so I’d have to go with him; (much to the dismay of the others in the office I would presume!)
